Editorial guidelines
Who we feature, and how we decide
Business Spotlights and Featured Stories are produced by our editorial team. Every request is reviewed before it is booked, and we use the same standards for everyone.
A Wayne County connection
Wayne County is our focus. We consider businesses located here, businesses serving our communities, and nearby businesses that residents visit.
Homegrown businesses are central to our coverage, but locally owned franchises may be considered too. County boundaries and franchise affiliation are not automatic exclusions; our team reviews each business individually.
An established track record
We generally look for 6 to 12 months of continuous operation, so there is a real customer history to talk about.
Newer businesses are welcome to start with a free Basic listing, and we are happy to revisit a feature down the road.
Good standing
The business is properly registered and licensed for the work it does, with no active suspensions or open regulatory actions.
A solid public reputation
We do a basic review of public information such as online reviews and complaint records. A pattern of unresolved customer complaints may delay or prevent a feature.
Categories we do not feature
Multi-level marketing, payday or predatory lending, gambling, adult entertainment and get-rich-quick offers.
A short conversation first
Before anything is booked or paid, we have a brief call with the owner to hear the story and make sure the feature is a good fit for both of us.
Our editorial independence
A paid package covers production time. It does not buy positive coverage, and our team keeps final say over what is published.
Submitting a request or meeting the basic requirements does not guarantee a feature. If we do not accept a request, no fee is charged. Free Basic listing submissions are reviewed for their connection to Wayne County.
